Much of my work with ancient world myths, stories, and the images that surface from their interpretation has to do with being a woman, wife, and mother. Water, earth, air, and fire (prima mater) are central to existence. I think about the elements and their affects on each other, the community, and each of us. For example, the river goddess Sarasvatí sings to me. She tells me to trust her, experience her, and appreciate her power. Waterpower affects creativity, provides the patient nurturing of a mother, expands horizons, confounds with trickery, and ultimately provides wisdom for the individual artistic expression. All of the elements may be better understood when they are personified in myths as goddesses and gods. Clay is earth, Inanna-like, malleable and changeable with the mixing of air, the between, Hekate-like, and the exposure to a Medusa-like decent into fire.
